| An acclaimed spiritual masterpiece, The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying is a manual for life and death and a magnificent source of sacred inspiration from the heart of the Tibetan tradition. Sogyal Rinpoche delivers a lucid and inspiring introduction to the practice of meditation, to karma and rebirth, to care and love for the dying, and to the trials and rewards of the spiritual path. This jewel of Tibetan wisdom is the definitive new spiritual classic for our times. |

"What is it that I hope for from this book? To inspire a quiet revolution in the whole way we look at death and care for the dying, and the whole way we look at life and care for the living." |
| -the author, Sogyal Rinpoche |

| Acclaim for the Tibetan Book of Living and Dying |
| "Sogyal Rinpoche...has delivered the Tibetan equivalent of 'The Divine Comedy.' One could imagine that this is what Dante might have written had he been a Buddhist metaphysician rather than a Christian poet." |
| - New York Times Book Review |
| "A magnificent achievement. In its power to touch the heart, to awaken consciousness, it is an inestimable gift." |
| - San Francisco Chronicle Book Review |
| "I have encountered no book on the interplay of life and
death that is more comprehensive, practical, and wise. The perspective is
forthrightly and profoundly Tibetan, but is expounded so clearly that the
reader has no trouble discerning its universal import on every page. A nourishing, helpful book." |
| - Huston Smith, author of The World's Religions |
| "Sogyal Rinpoche's work is a stunningly lucid presentation of the ancient Tibetan teachings. It serves as a vital spiritual beacon in the growing darkness of our age." |
| - Bruce Joel Rubin, screenwriter, Ghost and Jacob's Ladder |
| "If we modern people could absorb one hundredth of what is spoken of in this book, we could begin at one and the same time to bring help to those we love and allow the finitude of human life to teach us about what is infinite within ourselves." |
| - Jacob Needleman, author, Lost Christianity and
The Heart of Philosophy |
| "One of the most helpful books I have ever read." |
| - John Cleese, actor |
A Note from the Publisher
Sogyal Rinpoche's book The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying, published in 1992,
is widely regarded as one of the most complete and authoritative presentations
of the Tibetan Buddhist teachings ever written. It has demonstrated how these
teachings can be at one and the same time accessible to everyone, and yet
totally authentic and faithful to the tradition. Acclaimed by people of all ages
and backgrounds, as well as by Buddhist practitioners, Rinpoche's book has been
adopted for use in courses, workshops, and retreats by a variety of groups and
disciplines, therapeutic and spiritual. Many readers have remarked on how it
carries all the immediacy and force of an oral teaching, and how, with repeated
study and reflection, deeper meanings are continually revealed.
Since its publication in 1992, more than a million and a half copies have been
sold worldwide in 23 languages and 34 countries. As well as the English language
editions in the UK, USA, Australia and India, translations have so far been
undertaken in German, French, Dutch, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese,
Chinese, Swedish, Danish, Bulgarian, Hungarian, Polish, Czech, Norwegian,
Finnish, Romanian, Korean, Brazilian, Hebrew, Russian and Tibetan.
