I
have heard of that book many years ago, from what I
have heard it is both special and highly influential.
I am pretty poor right now, but when I get some
birthday money in a few weeks I will pick it up, Im
sure its not hard to find, I can probably get it from
Amazon.com.
I hope it has the same positive effects on me that it
did to you. I really need a life change. I know
I am making progress, but as long as I am at this
University I don't think I can find true happiness. I
NEED CHANGE!
I know you know how I feel.
This weekend, while with my girlfriend, I will look
at the Scientology web site and price the book. MY
girlfriend is also looking for a positive change. I
hope a new dawn is on the horizon for both of us, I
think we deserve it. My thanks,
Bill
January 29, 2002
Dear Bill,
You are doing well.
The Book, in paper back edition, is about $7 I think.
You mention, even in capital letters, that you "need change."
That is a recognized point of progress in your path to happiness.
If you would like to pursue this concept with me, consider that "needing change" is not quite the same as "demanding improvement."
Would you say, also, that you are at a point of DEMANDING IMPROVEMENT in your life?
Also, an earlier "point" on this path would be to identify what it is that is (or has been) ruining your life. That is worth taking a few minutes to consider.
So, get back to me with answers to two questions:
1. What is the ruin of your life?
2. Are you ready, now, to demand improvement?
Let me know.
Karl
January 29, 2002
Dear Karl,
Today before I read your last email, I visited the scientology web site. I enjoyed the stuff I was reading. I took the test the site offered and I did poor in a many of the areas, I did well in a few.
But
the depression, anxiety and well being sections I
scored lowest, (extremely low). Before even
reading your email I said to myself, I don't want a
change, I need a change. I feel like my emotions and
unhappy lifestyle will destroy me if I go down the
same path I am on now. I already feel physically ill
due to the unneeded stress, anxiety, and depression
in my life. Enough is enough!
The other question about my unhappiness, I think its
may be some of my immediate friends and family that
caused me distress. I also think it has to do with
being let down in the past by ex friends or even
family. I've been let down from friends, family,
teachers, advisors, etc. I may not pin point any one
thing specifically but as long as I can remember I
have been aloof from friends and loved ones. I want
to try and find true meaning to this thing called
life. And if reincarnation is a possibility, I
want to make sure I do everything right this time
around, so maybe I won't have to do it again.
I told my girlfriend who feels the same as me that we
are going to change things. There is a Scientology
Church, no joke, 15 minutes from my house. I think
while I am visiting my girlfriend this weekend we may
stop in their and see what they can do for us.
I have to say I am a bit cautious, ( a think its normal for a thinking man to want to know the absolute facts about an organization) But since I have very little to loose, there is no good reason why I shouldn't check it out. I would like to be a part of it, although I don't have really any money, so I was hoping that wouldn't be a major problem in my initial stages.
Of course, if my life gets put in the right direction I would certainly know that a debt needs to be repaid. I eagerly await your thoughts, please get back to me soon.
Bill
Dear Bill,
As I wrote a few messages ago, you are like that bear cub, starting to climb down the tree -- independent, and starting to look for food.
As you go into that Church, you can simply tell them of your correspondence with me -- copies if you wish -- and that you have had some extensive exchange of communications with a Scientologist with 30 years experience, who is OT3, and whose wife is OT8. Those terms may not yet mean much to you, but they will be meaningful to those at the Church. I've been using my professional name with you -- Karl Loren. I am fairly well known in the Church under my "real" name -- Loren C. Troescher.
They may want to give you that same test -- or perhaps you were able to print the results?
There is supposed to be a personal evaluation of those test results -- you can show them the results and ask for that evaluation. I do that evaluation fairly often for people.
There is an Orientation Film that I think you will enjoy.
You can ask for a demonstration of the "E Meter." This is used in the counseling processes.
They will want you to buy a book -- there are many, but if you express interest in Dianetics, they will suggest you buy it.
You'll find that they are very aggressive in pushing you to start some course or counseling -- there are beginning levels that are very inexpensive -- but you would have to be thinking of at least $100 for one of the beginning courses. Sample counseling would probably be offered to you in a batch of hours, at about $25 per hour, perhaps less.
There is one course which you can do with your girlfriend -- it will actually improve your relationship -- it is called "Success Through Communication." Like all courses in Scientology you take as long as you need to to finish -- and they will fit a schedule to your school schedule.
You will also enjoy a course that helps you spot who, in your life, has been suppressing you. I think it is called the "Ups and Downs" course.
Incidentally, you didn't quite answer my question about "demanding improvement" but I'll take your words as meaning that you do demand improvement.
I'll take as your answer on what is ruining your life this:
I feel like my emotions and unhappy lifestyle will destroy me if I go down the same path I am on now. I already feel physically ill due to the unneeded stress, anxiety, and depression in my life. Enough is enough!
Having then answered those two questions, the next questions seem to have already been answered also.
The next question would be: "Do you have any hope of improving?"
And, after that, "Do you know where help is available?"
I think you have successfully answered both of those questions -- that makes you a prime candidate for starting the process of changing your life.
I'll now look forward to hearing more of your experiences.
What do you think of publishing our eMail exchanges, with your name and identifying information changed?
Cordially,
Karl
January 30, 2002
Hi Carl,
Yes I am hungry for change, I am demanding change.
I
will tell them about or interactions and how you have
helped me start in the right direction. Should I use
your professional name or real name when bringing you
up? And are you sure that one of these Churches in
[place] will know you by name?
I planned to get the book Dianetics anyway so that's
not a problem, and if there is a course for 100
dollars for self help, that is a small price to pay.
I think I will have to test the test over again, I
did it during class, on a school computer. I
was not able to print the results or fully
concentrate on the questions, but I have an idea of
where my weakness are.
My girlfriend is very down lately, she is feeling the
same stresses over school and uncertainty of life as
I am.
I want to get help from her too. I would like your honest opinion and true feelings about our chances for success and change.
I've tried to get out of this rut time and time again and nothing ever seemed to have worked, I was just wondering how this may be different.
Sincerely,
Bill
Dear Bill,
Years ago, when Scientology was a much, much smaller group, most people knew many of the others. We are such a large group that there may well not be anyone who knows my name in the place you go.
Within the Church I am most usually known as "Loren C. Troescher." Many more know my wife, Bonnie J. Troescher, because she has achieved an extremely high level within the Church. But, there may not be anyone there who knows me. Karl Loren would be less known within the Church.
You both will be going to the Church? That should be enough to help your girlfriend start feeling better. If she is not ready to go there? and, if she wants to start a correspondence with me, I'll do that. But, I think all you have to do is get her to take that test you took (the OCA test) and get the evaluation of her scores in a personal interview -- that test and the evaluation is so accurate that it usually helps a person realize the truth, and that help is available.
There is no possible other source of so-called "help" that will be as successful for you as Scientology. When you learn more about it, you will better understand the truth of this statement. There is no part of life for which Scientology does not have the technology for success.
At first you are concerned with really small things, like happiness, but soon you will see the larger gains that are available.
I'm eager to hear your report of your first glimpse into this new world.
Incidentally, it is often true that "new people" feel that they should continue to "learn about" Scientology from the person who introduced them to it. That would be a wrong feeling. The ONLY source of information about Scientology is L. Ron Hubbard, and his books, lectures, and writings. You will find that people in the Church are very careful to never try to appear to be the source of data -- but always acknowledge LRH for that. Otherwise, the data would be altered and lost.
So, I look forward to a continuing exchange with you, but I will increasingly revert to NOT answering your questions, if they are technical, and giving you an LRH reference -- not my words, but his.
Cordially,
Karl

Subject: test results (attached file)Hi Karl,
here are my test results, I am attaching them, if there is a problem opening it let me know. I took the test as honestly as possible. Id like your opinion as always on how you think I did and what if any areas can be improved and how.
I note on going to the Church, Jaime and I are considering going to the Church soon, a definite date has not been picked but I hope it to be soon, possibly even this weekend when I visit her.She has her skepticism which is natural. I think her biggest concern is that she knows we are at a low state emotionally in our lives, and we may be vulnerable to anyone who offers advice without logically thinking things through.
I feel different because I have been corresponding with you and that has gave me a much more positive outlook on people trying to help.
I certainly do not think you are pulling one over on me. To be honest I think we have nothing to loose and everything to gain. I am going to advice here to email you so she can express her emotions and concerns.
I liked how you truly made me look at my life and how I was forced to analyze it, it really helped me see where I was and most importantly where I want to be in the future.
I will be in touch soon, especially if I visit the Church.
Sincerely, Bill
Hi Karl,
Its been a real hectic week.
I Think I should have some time (probably wed). to update you. I didn't want you to think I wasn't going to write you.
I've noticed you have responded to me less personally in the past few emails, I guess that's maybe because you want me to (start looking for food elsewhere) as you put it before.
I hope all is well, and I will email you later in the
week.
Also about publishing of the emails, Id like to know
I bit more on your thoughts of that before I commit.
If you can give me some specifics tha'd help.
Regards,
Bill
Dear Bill,
February 5, 2002
Hi Karl,
My weekend was great, it went to fast :( , I spent time with my girlfriend. I got to order Dianetics from online.
I look forward to reading it. I did not get to go to the Church yet, although I did email someone from my local Church.
I most likely will get to go down there at the end of this month when I have a longer time to visit home.
I find this to be fine, because I it will give me time to read the book and learn where it all came from.
I did not get your books yet, unfortunately, I hope I did not give my address wrong ( I do not mail myself to often) but I. Think it is right.
My
school's mail room is closed Fri-Sun so things also
seemed to get heavily delayed. I will keep you posted.
I am eager to get them! I will give one copy to Jaime,
I think she could use it.
I was reading your web site, as I do as one of my daily
regiments :) and was reading about your high
consumption of water as aid to your health and diet.
I have always been a firm believer in water also, but I have read a lot of negative stuff on water. Although I believe most to be nonsense, I was wondering what is your take on drinking water in terms of purification.
Do you buy bottled, use tap, or filter yourself with a reverse osmosis or something to that effect.
I've
also read to drink about a gallon a day. I wonted to
know your take on that if its not too much trouble. I
hope we can still talk about topics like this even
though my spiritual quest is going to go elsewhere.
My friend and I are going to attend a martial arts
competition that's coming up in a few weeks.
I think it will be a good learning experience, even if I am just spectating.
I am trying to learn as much as possible for when I come home because I want to pursue it.
I get a bit discouraged sometimes with the lack of time I have in days. After school and its related activities are done for the week, I don't have as much free time as I would like to do my own projects and activities.
I suppose I should try and lean to budget my time better.
Well, that's all for now, talk to you soon.
Bill
February 5, 2002
Dear Bill,
Great to hear from you,
Have I told you how I came to read Dianetics? I just looked back and found that I did.
I was really searching at that particular time, so I couldn't put it down. I look forward to hearing from you about it.
I'm a bit worried about whether we had the right address for you??
I have you in my phone book as "Dan Student" and I don't have a handy record of your last name -- so can't look you up in the database -- my daughter would remember, but she's gone. If the books haven't arrived by the time you are answering this, give me your last name, again, and I'll see what address we have for you in my records.
Water? My book, at www.oralchelation.net has about 60 pages on why you should drink more water, starting at:
http://www.oralchelation.net/heartdisease/ChapterSixteen/page16.htm
I recommend one ounce of water for each pound of body weight. It is much more important to drink lots of water than to worry about what type of water. Get the quantity up first, then be concerned about the quality. I have a reverse osmosis filter and also buy distilled water, but get the quantity up first. Drink water slowly -- small amounts all day. Juices, soda, coffee, etc., don't count as "water." Just water.
I am eager to continue reading your stuff and responding -- not to worry. If you were to count the words? I'll bet I've written more to you than you have to me???
Lack of time? That's curious. The ideal scene would be that you feel very satisfied, very proud, every day, that your day's production has been just right. You should go to sleep, easily, with the idea that you have had a great day, and that you look forward to tomorrow.
Lack of time? Some of what you are doing, then, is not really contributing to your important tasks -- you must be spending some time on things which, when you look back at the day, are not all that valuable -- you may have gotten into a rut in doing some of these things that are not all that valuable?
Budgeting time is more a matter of deciding on priorities.
I went to Santa Barbara last weekend. One of my 20 some grandchildren had her first taste of lobster, and then flaming bananas (picture enclosed -- but AOL will probably compress it??), and then feeding the Sea Gulls, as you will find an article I wrote about five years ago, just published today.
At: http://www.oralchelation.com/viewpoint/FeedingPelicansJuly1997.htm
Cordially,
Karl
February 6, 2002
Dear Karl,
The thought of someone having 20 grandchildren bring such a smile to my face.
It much give you such great satisfaction to see them grow. I can only imagine the emotional satisfaction it may bring.
I hope for the day when I can have a child of my own, and give him/her the love I think I missed out on growing up.
The thought of having children has scarred me in the past because I was uncertain that possibly the evils of the world can come between myself and the children.
I'm
not sure if you understand what I mean, basically I
thought there are so many potentially bad influences in
everyday life, including TV and even some aspects of
school. But, I think with the right love and
relationship those types of challenges can be overcome.
To give you an update on the Martial Arts, my friend
Dave enrolled us in 2 amateur competitions one to be at
the end of July and the other in October.
I basically have no choice but to get myself in gear.
When I get home from school I will have about 3 solid months to train.
I am going to try and make it a full time job. I was thinking I better be prepared or I am going to get my butt whipped.
I am looking forward to the spring when I can begin to do a lot more out doors training and activities.
It is freezing here lately! I am right off a mountain range, I guess you can imagine how cold that might be in February. I am truly looking forward to these events in the summer. Even if I don't win or I realize I am not cut out for this type lifestyle I will have proved to myself that I gave it my best effort.
So its only a matter of time before I get home and join my towns Ju Jitsu gym and go for it.
That's what's new in my life.
I hope all is well with you.
Dear Bill,
That all sounds good --- but!
I don't see anywhere here that you plan to earn your own cost of living?
If you expect your parents to continue to support you, after college, and while, from their viewpoint, you are just "fooling around" at the gym, well, I doubt they would be very willing?
What are your plans for earning money -- enough to become independent of your parents?
You have expressed interest in continuing these messages, and I too look forward to them. But, if you will look back at them you'll find that I've been rather stern, or demanding, even, that you do certain things to help yourself.
I will continue to be that way.
I rejoice in your successes, but may sometimes remind you of your responsibilities.
So, what's up with earning some bucks?
Cordially,
Karl
Dear Karl,
I got the books today Karl, I will let you know what I think tomorrow when I am done reading it. Thanks again for sending them.
Bill
February 8, 2002
Hi Karl,
I read
the book and enjoyed it very much. When I was at work
today sanding and priming these art pedestals, I
thought about the section of the book that talked about
how satisfying work can be. I totally agree, I
feel good sometimes after doing a hard days work of
something I enjoy.
I will give the other copy to my girlfriend and when I
am done with mine I will pass it off to a friend. I
still would like to read it a few more times. But
I think anyone can get some use out of it.
Maybe
I will give it to my mother :)
Okay onto my question.
Since I am trying to get back into athletic shape, I realize my diet needs a change. I would say if I am lacking anything important in my current diet it is protein.
I am not a big meat eater and do not really get high amounts of protein from other areas.
I've been reading that large amounts of protein is needed for regeneration, repair, and muscle growth.
I would like to know your opinions on protein, and amounts I should be taking. I was thinking about buying supplementation for it because I rarely eat meat.
Your opinions are always more then welcomed.
Regards,
Bill
February 9, 2002
Dear Bill,
I'm pleased you found The Way To Happiness interesting and useful.
The campaign I'm on, with this Book, is to give away for free two copies to anyone who writes to me and asks. But, it is part of this campaign that beyond two free copies the person should recognize the value of the book and be willing to purchase additional copies.
I think I've mentioned that they are about $25 for a bundle of 12 books.
You can get them here:
But, if your mother, for instance, or your girl friend, would like to write to me, and we can exchange some remarks, I would be glad to send either or both of them two free copies.
You see, by now, that this is a non-religious moral code -- there are many non-religious groups, and even many churches of other faiths, who are buying and giving away copies of the book. Amazingly, they have found that an area (such as a neighborhood, or even a city) becomes calm when thousands of these books are distributed.
I think I've already given you my web site that promotes people to write to me, to ask for their free copy? It is at:
http://www.happinessonline.org
You are right -- protein is necessary for any muscle growth and strength.
I have actually published more than 2000 pages about diet.
I question your lack of meat eating?
Is this because you think it is "bad" in some sense? Or not healthy?
Meat is the most convenient way to get protein.
My diet ideas will seem rather extreme to you -- but to be blunt, and quick, I suggest you start eating raw eggs every morning.
I often break two eggs into a cup and swallow them whole. It is very easy to do. You may have to get over your mental obstacles, but once you have done this a few times you'll find it is very easy.
I also eat raw meat.
I suppose this will bring a torrent of response about parasites, etc., so go ahead.
But, read when you have time, starting at:
http://www.karlloren.com/diet.htm
The body-building world understands, also, the importance of "growth hormone" in building muscles -- but too many of them go toward the artificial stuff (HGH) which is mostly a rip-off.
I do not, either, recommend protein supplements.
Raw eggs, raw meat! This will make you a champion martial arts competitor.
Well, I wonder what you'll have to say to this?
Regards,
Karl
February 9, 2002
Hi Karl,
Yes your last email has intrigued my mind.
I realize my diet needs to change seriously, training and exercise in not always enough for building a sound body.
I have
to put the right stuff in their as well. I guess that
is my problem considering everything you read these
days contradicts everything else.
When I was a younger my brother and I always watched
the Rocky Movies. I hope you are familiar with them. I
find them to be very motivational.
In one of the scenes Rocky breaks about 4-5 Raw eggs and drinks them straight. I used to look to my brother and go yuck!
He told me that it is a great way to build the body. I know eggs are a great source of protein and I am not so sure its the taste of raw eggs that scares me the most.
I'm sure you have already heard from people what they are afraid of, yes Salmonella (not sure if I spelled that right), yes harmful bacteria does scare me.
I don't even know where I have obtained this information but I know the warnings have come from more then 1 place.
I am also concerned with cholesterol.
At my last Dr. 's physical he told me my cholesterol was a bit high and I should work to reduce it.
He
said nothing serious but to develop good habits now. So
my biggest fears are 1. Bacteria 2. Cholesterol 3.
Taste (I can get over that I'm sure).
As for why I do not eat meat often that is a good
question. I do on occasion, but the meats I usually eat
are probably not good for you anyway like luncheon meat
and hamburgers.
I have
heard meat causes a lot of putrefaction in the colon,
but I have not really researched this on my own yet.
I really want to get on the right track in my life. I
am only beginning to get over my emotional troubles,
but I am getting over them.
I want to start feeling more vivacious like I did when I was still playing sports.
If you
have any pointers for an athletes diet, I am all ears.
I definitely know my diet cannot stay the same if I
want to do serious training this spring, but at least I
have a few months to get into some better habits.
I hope you are enjoying your weekend. I will keep
reading your sight in the meantime, hope to hear from
you soon,
Bill
Oh, one other thing. If you are ever interested in a
low impact, gentle form of exercise, I have found Tai
Chi to be simply amazing.
I have been doing it every night for the past 2 weeks, learning from an instructional video that my girlfriend got me. A form of exercise is essential for any age, If you would like to know more about it just ask me.
Dear Bill,
First, on raw eggs, they have no real taste at all. There is a texture which you have to get used to. But, once you have swallowed a few, you'll find that the texture thing is no longer any factor, and you'll find there is no taste.
The germs? Not to worry.
A great deal of the information you believe to be true has been false and you have not yet recognized it. You will discover that, more and more, as you study more of Scientology.
Cholesterol? I started in the vitamin business by writing a book about the fraud in cholesterol research. My Book is on the web, at http://www.oralchleation.net I commend it to you. High cholesterol is NOT the cause of heart disease. Foods high in cholesterol are NOT the cause of high cholesterol in the blood. The scare about cholesterol is solely for the purpose of selling cholesterol-lowering drugs. I'll send you, separately, an article on that.
I don't refrigerate eggs when I eat them raw -- there is no need, but I realize that I may be getting far out in front of you??
You haven't answered my questions, or commented, on the need for you to earn money, and become independent. Any action on that?
You are right, luncheon meat is worse than nothing. Hamburger is OK, but much better raw. Just eat steaks, etc. They are good sources of protein -- again, better if raw, but if you don't have the courage, cook them.
On diet your biggest problems are the lies you believe to be true. It is not unusual. The vast majority of Americans believe a bunch of lies on health matters.
For another excellent exercise, use the mini-trampoline. There are three distinct types of "bounce" and it can be a great muscle builder, as well as improve your balance -- greatly useful in martial arts.
The thing I "thrive" on is hearing that you are having success and wins in what you do -- so "future plans" are of interest, but I am much more interested in hearing that TODAY you accomplished some goal.
Cordially,
Karl
July 4, 2002
Dear Karl,
I started working, and am doing fine at the bank. I am trying to follow your scientology advice. It seems to be very logical, although some people are not as open minded as that way of thinking. I really enjoy the scientology way of thinking. It is practical and honest. One thing I have noticed in when I am being trained is that not everyone seems that they are extremely qualified for their jobs, for example, the woman running my training class, she looses her patience at many people in the class, when I think it is her who is not explaining everything perfectly or moving on fast before everyone is up to speed. I think I would be frustrated to be talked down to or bossed around by someone who is not extremely competent or a good CO worker. That is just my thoughts on work so far. Keep in mind this is my first real job. So I. May not know what the heck im talking about either.
Getting used to the morning schedule has probably been the hardest part. I have been so used to not having to wake up till the afternoon because of college. I have to say I wish I was more prepared for that. I guess I will get used to getting up early and be able to fall asleep earlier with time as I get adjusted??? I realize how important the adequate rest is for work, one night I had trouble sleeping, I just could not fall asleep, and I paid the price the next day at work, I was not retaining information as well as I should be able to. And felt tired. I have noticed that many people at work guzzle cup of coffee and another. I am not a coffee or even caffeine drinker. I wish I could be more vibrant and awake without these substances, I guess that's where proper diet comes in . MY diet is not fabulous, but it is certainly not TOO bad compared to what I see others put in their body. Yet I don't seem as vibrant as I should for my age. I wonder if my emotional upheaval and stress at college has effected my health? And if so to what extent?
Another thing that troubles me, is for that brief period I was on anti depressants before I realized the danger, is that I feel that my balance is not as sturdy, When I stand upright (not in motion) I feel that I am moving (maybe a vertigo feeling) It is difficult to explain.
I really have no other symptoms besides this dizziness and occasional sleep disturbances. But this is not acceptable to me when I want vibrant health, especially now that I am working to get out of my house. I don't want my health to stand in my way of success. Do you think I might be possible for me to have a mild case of vertigo from the affects of the drugs?? When I told the doctor who prescribed the meds to me he told me it was my anxiety getting worse and that I need meds to not feel that way. But I never had this problem before them, and I don't have any other symptoms, So it seems pretty vague to me. I also know emotional upheaval can play havoc with your physical sense. I feel more worried about feeling the way I am supposed to then feeling anxious over non existent things. I think my health is something to worry about. I guess this is the most important thing I need your advice for. For now I will try to keep my spirits as high as possible and wait patiently for better days while working my tail off.
On a brighter note, I at least no what some of my long and short term goals are, and am striving to achieve them. I know its a holiday weekend Karl so whenever you have the time id love to hear your thoughts. I wish you and your family a happy and safe holiday, and hope to hear from you soon. My best, Bill
